According to a report in the Marin Independent Journal, BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. is exploring a significant expansion of its Novato campus to accommodate R&D operations with increased warehouse and manufacturing space. The company is said to be in talks with Novato officials about special zoning designed to accommodate their potential development.
Debra Charlesworth, a BioMarin spokeswoman, describes a potential campus-style development, which may include a shuttle service to Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit that would “provide parking efficiency and traffic reduction. We’d do that through formal programs to optimize transportation — flexible work hours, carpools, vanpools, support of public transportation.”
Headquartered in San Rafael. BioMarin currently employs 1,500 people in Marin, contributes $504 million annually to the local economy, according to the Marin Economic Forum.
